Husker Football Player Maurice Washington Facing Felony Charges under California’s “Revenge Porn” Law

University of Nebraska running back Maurice Washington is facing criminal charges under California’s “Revenge Porn” law, according to an NBC Bay Area report.

Back in March of 2018, Washington sent a video to his ex girlfriend of her allegedly being sexually assaulted by two former classmates, when she was 15, along with a text that read “Remember this hoe (sic).” The two males were both aged 17.

According to the report, Washington did not take the video, which was recorded back in 2016, but had it saved on his phone. Because of her age at the time, Washington is being charged with distribution of child pornography as well. Washington, who is entering his spring semester of his freshman year at NU, dated the victim while they both attended The King’s Academy High School in Sunnyvale, California.

The report also alleges that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln knew about the incident last fall, yet allowed Washington to play in 2018. In a statement, UNL said “Last fall we were contacted by the Nebraska Attorney General’s office and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln police department and made aware that officials in California were interested in interviewing Maurice Washington about a prior incident. Details were not shared and there was no additional follow up with the Nebraska Athletic Department. Recently, we were made aware that charges may be filed against Maurice in California. We have not had a chance to review the charges, and will continue to monitor this ongoing legal process.”
